Piano Practice - Clarity

In this article we are going to explain the how to achieve, and the important of, clarity in your piano playing.

So what exactly do I mean by clarity?

Clarity, when it comes to music practice, is about making sure every note in the piece of music you’re practicing is played clearly.

This is one thing you need to be keeping in mind while practicing.

With slower pieces of piano music, this task is much easier. But as you become more advanced, you’ll probably start to tackle some more advanced classical pieces, which are often played quite fast and have many more notes to play.

It’s situations like this where all you’re practicing for clarity will pay off. If you haven’t practiced with clarity in mind, then your playing may sound rushed, and you’ll stumble over some of the notes.

Again, it’s important you build up speed gradually. This means you won’t be sacrificing your clarity for speed.

If you’re using a real piano, then you can loose your clarity by over-using the sustain pedal as well. If you practice slowly and correctly, you’ll know how much sustain to use… and you’ll avoid the muddy sounds that some people get when they haven’t practiced correctly.

In conclusion, achieving good clarity in your piano playing (and practice) is good goal to aim for. It will improve the sound of all your playing, and improving your technique considerably.
