You’ll also want to check the range of tone on your piano or keyboard. Does it change when you crank the volume? It shouldn’t do. You are looking for an even tone whether the piano is turned up loud or quiet. Make sure you check where the sound comes from when you play a chord of scale. It should be the treble from the right speaker and the bass from left. This is usually fine on better quality pianos, but if you’re looking at very cheap ones… you’ll need to check for this.
