The Basics A Beginner Needs To Know When
Learning To Play Piano
In this article we will start with some
basic piano lessons for beginners.
These lessons will be about things that
are specific to the piano and to music in general.
All of these things are important to
learn if you’re starting out with piano, or music.
So without any further introduction,
let’s get started!
The first thing you need to learn about
is the Musical Staff. This is the five horizontal lines and
four spaces used to show the different placement of the
notes.
This is crucial to learning to read
music. Indeed, you are probably already familiar with the
musical staff.
The next thing a beginner should
know is how to find middle C (on your piano, and on the musical
staff). Why is this so important?
It’s important because if you can find
middle C, then you can find all the other different notes as
well. Middle C is always the starting point for this type of
learning.
You will find middle C near the middle
of your piano. It is to the left of two black keys.
After you’ve learnt where middle C is,
your next task will be to work out the notes of all the other
keys. As daunting as this may sound at first, it is actually
not as difficult as it first appears.
Here’s how it works: You start at C (by
the way, C will always be to the left of two black keys), and
you work your way up the white keys in this order C D E F G A B
and then back to C.
Once you’ve done this, you should be
able to know which note is which key. This will be invaluable
when it comes to learning piano.
The next thing you need to gain an
understanding of is the clef. Pianists use the treble clef, and
the bass clef. The bass is played with the left hand. These
clefs are found at the beginning of a musical staff.
Once you’ve mastered the things you’ll
have a good foundation to start your musical education. These
things may be basic, but they are also integral to learning
music, and specifically, learning to play the piano.
Once you’ve learnt these basics, they
will stay with you for a lifetime – and you’ll be thankful you
took the time to learn these things.
